Scorpio and Capricorn are both strategists, and they recognise each other by what neither of them does. Neither exaggerates. Neither announces a plan before it exists. Neither confuses being liked with being respected, and both noticed that about the other early.

The two sit 60 degrees apart in a sextile, with elements that support one another, so cooperation between them is easy to reach whenever either bothers to reach for it.

What this pairing rarely lacks is competence. What it lacks entirely is anybody willing to say out loud that things have become difficult, and neither of them has ever regarded that as a gap.

The angle between Scorpio and Capricorn

Scorpio and Capricorn stand 60° apart on the zodiac wheel, and astrology calls that distance the Sextile. The angle never changes: it is the same for every pair of these two signs, whatever else the two charts hold.

Water and Earth are the classically supportive elements: each one gives the other what it does not produce on its own.

Fixed and Cardinal are two different speeds: one sets the pace, the other decides how long it lasts.

The pair has two rulers, Pluto and Saturn, and each side reads the relationship through its own.

Patience as a shared method

Both of these two will wait years for something, and neither finds that remarkable. A career, a house, a slow revenge, a family arrangement that only makes sense in the long run — the ability to hold a course without needing encouragement is the thing they most obviously have in common.

It makes them formidable together and it makes them slow to notice when a course has stopped being worth holding.

Two kinds of control

Capricorn wants control of the structure: the terms, the money, the arrangement that will still be standing later. Scorpio wants control of the truth: who knows what, what is actually going on, where the leverage is.

Those rarely collide, which is why the pairing is comfortable. Each is running a different half of the same operation and neither wants the other's half.

Nobody asks for help

Both regard needing assistance as information best kept to themselves, including from each other.

So a bad year can pass with both parties managing privately, each aware that something is wrong and neither raising it, on the grounds that the other would have said. Nothing in the pairing corrects this, and it is the most likely way it fails.

Initiative and veto

Capricorn opens the subject and Scorpio decides how far it goes.

In practice that gives Capricorn the initiative and Scorpio the veto, which both find acceptable until the veto is used on something Capricorn had already committed to elsewhere.

Where this pair rubs

The rub is warmth, or its absence. Neither of these two produces reassurance readily, and both need it more than they show. The relationship can run for a long time on respect and shared competence, with the affectionate part quietly starved.

The second rub is that Scorpio reads Capricorn's reserve as a withholding, which it usually is not, and Capricorn reads Scorpio's watchfulness as mistrust, which it usually is not either. Both are simply doing what they do with everybody, and neither expected to have to be different at home.
