Taurus and Scorpio stand at either end of one axis, and the subject of that axis is holding on. Taurus holds what is solid: the house, the habit, the person who was there yesterday. Scorpio holds what is underneath: the bond, the history, the thing that was never said out loud.

They share a fixed cross, so neither lets go easily, and their elements feed one another, which is why the atmosphere between these two is intense rather than hostile. What separates them is not strength of feeling but where each one looks for the truth of a situation, and how far down they expect to have to go to find it.

The angle between Taurus and Scorpio

Taurus and Scorpio stand 180° apart on the zodiac wheel, and astrology calls that distance the Opposition. The angle never changes: it is the same for every pair of these two signs, whatever else the two charts hold.

Earth and Water are the classically supportive elements: each one gives the other what it does not produce on its own.

Both signs belong to the same cross: Fixed. They meet a change on the same beat, and neither of them is the one who gives way first.

The pair has two rulers, Venus and Pluto, and each side reads the relationship through its own.

The surface and the undertow

Taurus takes a calm situation as a calm situation. Scorpio takes a calm situation as the visible part of something with more going on beneath it, and is usually right often enough to keep doing it.

This is the daily texture of the pair. Taurus finds the searching unnecessary and faintly insulting; Scorpio finds the acceptance either restful or wilfully blind, depending on the week.

Trust, built the slow way

Neither of these two gives trust early, and both give it permanently once given. That is a rare match, and it is the reason this combination survives things that would end most others.

The test is usually the same one. Something is wrong, Scorpio waits to be found out rather than explaining, and Taurus, who does not go looking, simply carries on. Whether that reads as loyalty or as inattention decides how the pair goes on from there.

Opposition, not opposition

An opposition is the widest angle two signs can hold, and it is easy to mistake for a verdict. What it actually describes is a shared subject split into halves, with each side holding the end the other let go.

Both of these signs are asking what is genuinely mine. One answers by keeping the thing safe and unchanged; the other by knowing exactly how deep it goes.

Where this pair rubs

The rub is that neither of these two will move first, and both are content to wait a very long time. Taurus waits by continuing as normal. Scorpio waits by withdrawing, which Taurus registers late and answers with more normality, which reads to Scorpio as proof of indifference.

The second rub is jealousy, which is often assigned to only one side of this pair and belongs to both. Scorpio wants to know where the attention goes; Taurus wants what is theirs to stay theirs. The vocabulary differs and the impulse is the same.

What keeps it workable is plain speech about small things, since both of them are capable of holding a grievance well past the point of it being about anything.
