Holding on until the situation removes the choice

The strength of this placement is that it does not let go, and the difficulty is exactly the same sentence. A situation gets outlasted rather than solved, and the capacity to keep going is genuinely formidable.

What is missing is a signal for stopping. Since nothing internally suggests release, the ending usually gets delivered by events, at which point it looks sudden to everybody watching.

Collectively this is the atmosphere in which what things are worth stops being agreed and starts being contested. Land, resources and money get revalued abruptly, and the arrangements that supported one answer stop supporting it.

Everyone inside the period experiences this as instability. What it is, structurally, is a slow removal of anything whose worth was assumed rather than tested.

There is an unusual seriousness about the physical here: what is eaten, what is endured, who is allowed to touch, what a person will and will not do with their own body.
