Two Libra are both good at the same job, and it is a job that requires somebody else to do the other half. Each arrives at a decision as a diplomat: fair-minded, attentive to the other side, ready to find the arrangement that costs the least.

What neither brings is a client. A negotiation needs at least one party with a stated position, and here both people are representing an interest they have declined to name, out of consideration for the person opposite.

So the talks are excellent, and they are talks between two envoys whose principals never turn up.

One sign, twice over

Both charts start from the same point of the wheel — 0°, the Conjunction. Nothing here separates the two, and nothing balances them either.

Both signs belong to one element: Air. The pair reacts to what happens the same way before a word is said about it.

Both signs belong to the same cross: Cardinal. They meet a change on the same beat, and neither of them is the one who gives way first.

Both signs answer to one planet, Venus, which is why the pair recognises itself almost at once.

The empty chair

Because both signs sit at the same degree of the wheel in a conjunction, this is not one accommodating person meeting a decisive one. It is the same instinct twice.

Each waits for the other to state a preference so it can be met generously, and each is being generous by not stating one first, which is a standoff conducted entirely in good manners.

What gets decided instead

The outcome is not nothing. Something always happens: a flat is taken, a holiday is booked, a Christmas is spent somewhere.

It is decided by whichever external pressure arrives first — a deadline, a landlord, a relative who asks a direct question. Both then adapt to it gracefully and neither is quite able to say afterwards whether it was what they wanted.

Two people who do start things

The passivity is a misreading. Both of these signs are cardinal, and this pair initiates constantly: the move, the party, the difficult conversation with a friend, the change of direction.

The missing capacity is not initiative but arbitration. They open things easily and close them slowly, so the household usually has several large matters in progress and no mechanism for finishing any of them.

Who tells the friend no

Neither will be the one who disappoints an outsider. A friend who needs to be told, a relative who cannot come, a piece of work that has to be refused — the task sits between them, each hoping the other will take it, both scrupulously fair about whose turn it is.

In practice it is usually resolved by the deadline passing, which neither would defend and both quietly accept.

What doubles, and what is missing

The damage is not conflict; it is representation. Over years, two people who have each been arguing on behalf of somebody they never introduced end up in a life that reflects neither of them, and there is no one to hold responsible for it.

What changes it is appointing somebody. Each takes a set of questions — the money, the holidays, whose family at Christmas — and settles them alone, without consulting, on the understanding that the other will not be asked and will not object. It offends the fairness both of them believe in, and it is the only arrangement that puts a principal in the room.

Compare the real charts

A Sun sign is only the outline. A synastry chart puts two full birth charts side by side — Moon, Venus, Mars and the houses — and shows where the two of you actually meet.
