The trait has real value and the people who love you tend to name it first: with you, nothing is being managed, and a compliment from you is worth something precisely because you would not have offered it otherwise. The repair is not to become careful, which flattens you into someone dull and slightly insincere. It is to notice the flinch when it happens and address it on the spot instead of letting the other person conclude that you did not care. Ten seconds spent acknowledging the impact preserves both the honesty and the friendship, and you lose none of your directness by adding it.

You are not against commitment. You are against being enclosed, and the two get confused by everybody including you, usually at the worst possible moment.

The arrangements that last with you are the ones with visible room in them: work you can shape, relationships where a solo trip is unremarkable, obligations you chose out loud rather than drifted into.
